International World Camp aims to change youth’s mindset


In a first for TUT, the University hosted a three-day long International World Camp in partnership with the International Youth Foundation. The aim of the event, hosted at the Student Centre at the Soshanguve South Campus from 15 to 17 June, was to positively influence the mindset of the youth during Youth Month.

During the event, ten students received tickets to participate in the upcoming World Camp, taking place in South Korea next month. The tickets include accommodation, food and transport.
With the theme for the 2018 camp, #Youth Mind Education Training, the event empowered the youth through mindset training and lectures. The Good News Corps (GNC), organiser of the event, travels to over 180 countries every year, empowering the youth globally. The GNC also provides the youth with opportunities to travel with them as volunteers across the world.


Dr Shiferaw Teklemariamat, Ethiopian Ambassador designate to South Africa, said in future more TUT students will get the opportunity to participate and volunteer in the GNC’s exchange programme.

Duduzile Khumalo, a B Com Accounting student at the University of Johannesburg, said she has been volunteering since 2014 and the opportunity was overwhelming. “I get to travel to different places in and outside of South Africa. South Korea has to be the best country that I have ever been to thus far.”

One of the mindset activities included a lecture by Dr Gwangbo-bo Lee, a mindset specialists, who urged students to believe in themselves and to start looking beyond their capacity. “Growth starts when the heart changes. After the first five years of such change, the blessings start. It is always sensible to believe in yourself at all times,” he said.

A local Hammanskraal resident donated a brand new vehicle to the Moretele Community Radio (MCR), in Hammanskraal as a sign of appreciation.  Dr Banda, the traditional healer known to locals for healing and reuniting long lost lovers, gave away a brand new Opel Corsa utility car to the local radio station.  Banda as he is popular known, said the station had supported his business for the past two years.  “The station gave me a platform to speak to residents. TUT Residence Crisis

Tshwane University of technology Soshanguve Campus students are complaining about their living conditions at the CCT campus residence, students says this issue of poor maintenance has been going on for years and it ended to a point where the 6 th floor of CCT is malfunctioning.   CCT manager Mr Patric Mabuseng explained that since the year started several cases were reported about the issues of the malfunctioning of the elevators, crime rate in the residence and the unhealthy living conditions that students are facing. “The maintenance of the residence is not in my hands but everything is controlled by the management of TUT and those that are in power of TUT.” He said Thando Mguni a resident at CCT says students’ lives are at risk because now the roof is falling down at the last floor and cockroaches as well as rats are coming from the malfunctioning floor to their rooms. House burnt to ashes with no water to stop the fire

One of the houses in Hammanskraal (Temba) got exposed to the fire. The community had long been complaining about poor service delivery in their area but no one bite back to their complains, due to shortage of water in the community, no one was able to assist, they all tried to pure soil to stop the house from burning but the fire burnt even more. Mmule Medupe (48), who is the owner of the house, said it was late around 5pm, on her way to get home from work, “I received a call from my neighbour telling me that my house was burning, I had no idea of what was going on as I was shocked and frustrated”. The six room house together with the garage was burnt to ashes. Some of the community members stated that, no one utters what really caused the fire but Mmule’s son is always under the influence of drugs due to that, they suspect him.
